The Hermit
Withdraw on purpose – the answer needs solitude to be heard.

Upright
The Hermit is deliberate withdrawal in search of what crowds can’t give. When he appears, the answer you need isn’t out there; it’s in the quiet you’ve been avoiding. This card marks a season for solitude, reflection, and inner work: stepping back from the noise, the advice, the social churn, to hear your own thinking clearly.
It often arrives at genuine turning points, when a question has grown too important to answer with borrowed opinions. The Hermit also carries the teacher’s light (the wisdom won by those who’ve made the climb, offered to those still climbing) so he can mark a mentor’s arrival, or your own turn to guide. He favors depth over breadth, one true insight over a hundred inputs.
When he lands, give yourself the solitude honestly. Not isolation as hiding, but withdrawal with a purpose: go inward, ask the real question, and stay until the answer lights. Block out genuine alone time this week and guard it. Bring one question in with you and let everything else wait outside.
Someone needs inward time, possibly you. Honor it without reading it as rejection. Space taken honestly gives back more than it costs, and space resented gives back nothing at all.
Step back from the noise before the next professional move: research, reflect, consult your own judgment over the crowd’s. Money favors the person who thinks alone before acting in public.
Take some genuine quiet today, even twenty minutes. One clear thought found alone outweighs a full day of borrowed opinions.
Reversed
The Hermit reversed is solitude gone wrong in one of two directions. At one edge it’s isolation: withdrawal hardened into hiding, loneliness dressed as wisdom, so long alone that the road back to people feels impassable. The reflection that was meant to serve a purpose has become an end in itself: endless rumination, no return, the lantern lighting nothing but the same circled thoughts.
At the other edge it’s the refusal to go inward at all: filling every silence with noise, outsourcing every decision, running from the very solitude the situation requires. Reversed, the card can also mark rejected guidance: the mentor ignored, or the teacher who’s withdrawn their light when it was needed.
Check which failure is yours. If you’ve been hiding, rejoin the world and bring what you’ve learned back with you. If you’ve been running, sit still and face the question waiting in the quiet. Either way, telling one person honestly where you’ve got to is usually what breaks the deadlock.
Withdrawal has drifted into distance, and the silence is being misread. Say what the solitude is for, or admit it’s become avoidance, and come back.
You’re either isolated from information you need (ask for input) or drowning in everyone’s opinions. Rebalance toward whichever is missing before deciding anything with your money or career path.
Check which you’re avoiding today: people, or your own company. Spend one honest hour with whichever one you’ve been dodging.
