Temperance
Proportion and patience carry this – the measured hand outlasts the dramatic one.

Upright
Temperance is balance as a living act rather than a fixed state, the card of moderation, patience, and blending. When it appears, the way forward is the middle path walked with skill: not this extreme or that one, but the measured course between. This card often arrives after upheaval, as the healing card: the long, quiet work of restoring equilibrium, recovering steadiness, letting time do what force cannot.
It favors the middle course in every register: compromise in conflict, pacing in ambition, gentleness in recovery. Temperance also speaks of alchemy, the patient mixing of unlike things into something finer: two people into a partnership, work and rest into a life, opposing truths into wisdom. It marks purpose held calmly, progress made without violence to yourself or others.
When it lands, don’t rush and don’t force. Blend, adjust, wait where waiting is needed: the situation wants a craftsman’s patience, and it will reward exactly that. Find today’s extreme and dilute it a little: more rest into the work, more listening into the argument. Small recalibrations, made steadily, are the cure.
Love or a relationship heals and deepens through patience: merge differences slowly instead of forcing agreement. Compromise offered calmly now becomes the blend that actually lasts for years.
Moderation outperforms boldness now: balanced portfolios, sustainable pace, blended strategies. Mediate rather than fight, diversify rather than bet. The patient, mixed approach quietly beats every dramatic extreme this season.
Take the middle road in all of today’s choices: mix, moderate, adjust. Nothing needs to be all or nothing before sunset.
Reversed
Temperance reversed is the balance lost: excess, imbalance, or the middle path abandoned. When it appears this way, something is out of proportion: too much of one thing and not enough of another – work without rest, indulgence without limit, giving without receiving, speed without pause.
It can mark a life pulled to extremes, swinging between opposites instead of finding the blend, or a recovery rushed before it was ready. Reversed, the card often points to impatience as the root problem: forcing a process that needed time, mixing things too fast or in the wrong measure, demanding now what only arrives gradually. It can also mark discord: parties who won’t compromise, elements that won’t blend, because someone keeps insisting on all or nothing.
Find what’s excessive and moderate it deliberately. Name the extreme you’ve been living at, restore the neglected opposite, and slow the tempo. The situation hasn’t failed: it’s been rushed. Correct the one area most lopsided; rebalancing everything at once is its own kind of excess.
Feeling is see-sawing between extremes: all closeness or all distance, grand gestures then neglect. Steady the rhythm; love does its real work at moderate, sustainable temperatures.
Something in your professional life is out of proportion: overwork, overexposure, or all the eggs in one basket. Rebalance before the extreme corrects itself; measured now costs less than forced later.
Spot today’s excess early: the extra hour, the extra drink, the extra heat in your reply. Then halve it, calmly.
