Hagalaz
The hailstorm – disruption that was not chosen and cannot be stopped.

Upright
Hagalaz is hail: sudden, destructive, and impossible to negotiate with. But hail is only frozen rain. It arrives hard, does its damage, and then melts into the ground it has just flattened. Both halves of that matter, and most readings of this rune only ever remember the first one.
When it comes up, an outside force is breaking something open. This is the crisis nobody arranged, the delay that ruins the plan, the change imposed from above. It is not a punishment and it is not a failure of preparation: Hagalaz is specifically the thing that was never within anyone’s control, which is why it does not reverse. The storm is simply the storm.
But hail melts, and the water feeds what grows next. This rune marks the destruction that clears ground rather than the kind that only ruins. When it lands, do not spend your strength fighting the weather. Shelter, endure, protect what matters most, and wait. When it passes, look honestly at what is still standing. That is what was built properly.
An external disruption rather than a failure of feeling. Weather it rather than blaming anyone for something nobody set in motion. What is solid will still be standing once it passes.
Sudden change arriving from outside: a restructure, a canceled contract, a market shift. Protect the essentials first, and avoid rebuilding the same structure that has just come down. What survives the disruption is what was built properly.
Something may go sideways today through nobody’s fault. Protect what matters, let the rest slide, and do not take it personally.
Merkstave (reversed)
Hagalaz is the same either way up, so it never lands reversed: a draw shows it upright, always. It has no soft side to lose; the hail is the reading. The only real questions are how large the storm is, and what is still standing once it passes.
