Wealth that arrives and can leave – prosperity that has to be tended.

Fehu is cattle: movable wealth, the kind that can multiply or wander off. That is the whole teaching. This is not the security of land or inheritance: it is prosperity that has to be fed, guarded, and moved with the seasons, and it rewards tending exactly as much as it punishes neglect.
When it comes up, something is arriving: money, work, opportunity, goodwill. It tends to show first in the material register (an offer, a deal closing, a client who changes the scale of what you do) and the personal side often warms alongside it. If the question was about money, this is as strong a rune as the set holds, and what comes usually comes without much struggle.
But Fehu names living wealth, and living things need tending. When it lands, the question is never whether you will receive but what you will do with it: wealth that circulates multiplies, wealth that is hoarded rots. Turn your attention to the material side of your life and keep it there. This is not the season for drifting – it is the season for working while the door is open.
Generosity is the currency here: time, attention, warmth. Love warms when it is given freely and cools when someone starts keeping score. Invest in what you feel rather than protecting yourself inside it.
One of the strongest money runes in the set: income, an offer, a deal that closes, work that finally pays. Take what is offered and put it to work rather than parking it: prosperity here rewards movement over storage.
Put something into circulation today: money, help, a recommendation, credit where it is due. Fehu rewards what moves, not what sits still.
Merkstave (reversed)
Fehu reversed is scarcity thinking: a grip tight enough that nothing new can reach you. It can point to real financial strain, money leaving faster than it arrives, but more often it describes the posture around the money rather than the money itself.
The sense it carries is that there is never enough, that giving diminishes you, that whatever you hold has to be defended. Greed and anxiety live close together in this rune. You may also find that what you own has started to own you, or that wealth arrived and brought no ease with it.
Look honestly at whether you are hoarding anything (money, energy, affection, time) and what it costs you to hold on that hard. Open your hand. Count what you actually have rather than what you are afraid of losing, and give something away before the fear of loss costs you more than the loss would.
Someone here may be keeping score, or withholding out of fear. Affection hoarded is not saved, it is wasted. Ask what you are guarding against, and whether it is worth what the guarding costs.
Money may be tight, or the fear of it may be driving the decisions. Check which, because the two need different answers. Avoid gripping a role or a sum so hard that better opportunities cannot reach you.
Notice whether you are holding something back today – time, credit, help – and give a little of it away. See how quickly the scarcity eases.
