Mannaz
Others decide much of this, and so does an honest look at yourself.

Mannaz is humankind: the individual and the community held in the same rune, because the old world did not believe either could exist alone. It concerns who you are among other people – your role, your reputation, your usefulness – seen plainly and without much flattery. It is the rune most interested in how you look from outside.
When it comes up, the question turns toward the self: your role, your relationships, your place among the people around you. It often marks a need for cooperation, and a reminder that nobody succeeds entirely alone. The community around you is a resource, and this rune tends to appear when it is being underused.
Mannaz also calls for honest self-knowledge: seeing yourself clearly, strengths and blind spots together, and looking at your own situation as another person might. When it lands, know yourself honestly and do not isolate. Draw on the people around you and offer them the same, and take a clear-eyed look at your own part in whatever is currently happening. That part is usually larger than it feels.
Mutual understanding is the theme. See the person as they are rather than as you need them to be, and let yourself be seen the same way.
Progress through people: a network, a mentor, a team that works. Ask for help where it is available, and be useful where you can. Reputation compounds noticeably under this rune.
Ask someone for help today with something you would normally handle alone. It is a shorter route than pride suggests.
Merkstave (reversed)
Mannaz reversed is the self out of alignment. It points toward isolation, conflict, and the blind spots that are always invisible from the inside.
It can mark a falling-out, a withdrawal from the community that would actually help, or an inability to see yourself accurately in a situation. Sometimes it warns of self-deception, or of expecting more from other people than they ever agreed to give. Occasionally it points to an opponent, though far more often the difficulty is closer to home than that.
Look honestly at your own part in whatever has gone wrong, which is the one part available to change. Then check whether pride or embarrassment is keeping you from help that exists. Mannaz reversed is not an accusation. It is an invitation to see the situation from outside yourself, which is the only vantage point from which most of it makes sense. Most situations make considerably more sense from a step outside them, which is exactly the step this rune is asking for.
A misunderstanding here may be about perception rather than facts. Try seeing it properly from their side before deciding what any of it actually means.
Isolation at work, or a professional self-image that has drifted from how other people actually see you. Ask someone honest for their read before you correct course. An outside view costs one conversation and saves several months.
Consider today’s problem as though it belonged to someone else and you were advising them. The answer usually changes shape.
