Perthro is the most contested rune in the set, and the usual reading is a dice-cup: the vessel that hides the lots until it is tipped. Whatever it originally depicted, the meaning has settled on chance, and on the fact that some of what decides an outcome stays out of sight while it is being decided.
When it comes up, forces are at work that are not fully visible: hidden factors, buried memories, an element of luck that no amount of planning accounts for. It often marks turning points that hinge on things outside anyone’s control, and it asks for trust in a process you cannot map. This is the rune of divination itself, and of secrets that are starting to surface.
Perthro is a reminder that not everything is meant to be managed. When it lands, hold your plans loosely and stay alert to what emerges. Some of what is shaping the situation is hidden for now, and the useful posture is attention rather than force. Let it reveal itself rather than forcing an answer before one exists.
Something here is not yet visible: a feeling unspoken, a factor unknown. Let it surface in its own time rather than interrogating it into the open.
An unknown factor is in play: an undisclosed term, a decision being made elsewhere, an element of genuine chance. Avoid betting heavily until more of the picture becomes available. Position yourself to move once the picture actually clears.
Stay alert today for something you did not plan for. The useful development will probably arrive sideways rather than where you are looking.
Merkstave (reversed)
Perthro reversed is the hidden thing working against you. It points to unwelcome surprises, information being withheld, or a run of chance that keeps landing badly for reasons nobody can explain.
It can also mark an unwillingness to look at what is concealed: a truth glimpsed and then carefully re-buried, or a fixation on controlling something that was never controllable. Sometimes it warns against gambling on the unknown, or against digging for an answer that is not ready to come up. Not every mystery is a gift, and some are simply not yet due.
Loosen your grip on the outcome. Stop trying to force the reveal, and stop treating the absence of information as though it were information. If something is hidden, act on what you can actually see and leave the rest genuinely open. Perthro reversed punishes premature certainty more reliably than it punishes patience. Not knowing is uncomfortable, but acting on a guess dressed as a fact is considerably more expensive.
Something may be being withheld, or you may be filling a silence with your own worst guess. Ask directly rather than continuing to speculate in private.
Information you need may be deliberately unavailable right now. Do not commit money or reputation until more of the picture is visible, however impatient that makes you feel. Acting on partial information here tends to compound rather than resolve.
Do not gamble on incomplete information today. Ask the question or wait, but do not guess and then act as though you knew.
