Upright
Laguz is water: lake, sea, and the current running underneath. It is the least sentimental rune about its own element: water carries ships and it drowns them, and it makes no distinction between the two. Powerful, useful, and never domesticated. Depth is the point of this rune, and depth is not safe.
When it comes up, intuition is the instrument to trust: the quiet knowing, the dream that lingers, the pull that resists justification but keeps being right. It speaks of flow, of moving with the current rather than damming it, and of the emotional and unconscious depths where real understanding tends to live.
It can mark heightened sensitivity and imagination, or the need to let feeling lead where logic has stalled. But deep water is still deep water. Currents carry and they also pull under. When it lands, trust your instinct and move with events rather than against them, while feeling your way carefully rather than diving in. The answer is below the surface. Stop analyzing and start sensing.
Feelings running deeper than anyone is saying out loud, possibly including you. Trust what you sense rather than what is being stated, and let the emotion have its proper place.
Intuition outperforms analysis under this rune. Trust your read on people over their presentations, and stay adaptable rather than locking yourself into a fixed plan too early. The thing you sense but cannot yet evidence is worth noting down.
Trust the first instinct today, the one that arrived before the reasoning caught up. It is usually the accurate one.
Merkstave (reversed)
Laguz reversed is emotion turned turbulent. It points to overwhelm, confusion, and instincts that either cannot be heard or cannot be trusted: the water too rough to read anything in.
It can mark being pulled under by your own feelings, or a fear of the depths that keeps everything determinedly shallow. Sometimes it warns of self-deception: wishful feeling mistaken for insight, which is a particular risk with this rune because both arrive by the same route. There may also be a stretch where nothing flows and everything feels stagnant rather than deep.
Do not make a large decision mid-current. Get back to solid ground, let the surface settle, and check what the feeling is actually telling you before acting on it. Laguz reversed does not say your intuition is wrong. It says the conditions are too disturbed right now to read it accurately, which is a different and more recoverable problem.
Emotions may be running ahead of the facts, or a feeling may be being mistaken for a certainty. Let it settle before acting on it.
Avoid any decision driven by mood right now. Wait for the emotional weather to clear, then look at the actual numbers again and see whether anything has changed. Numbers read differently once the mood has passed.
Do not decide anything large while you feel like this. Let it settle first and revisit it when the water is calmer.
